Dear Friends of the Totonacs,

 

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2023 !

 




Manuel Arenas' dream was to have a school to provide training for pastors and leaders of the Totonac tribe in their mother tongue. Now Manuel’s dream continues through the Herman Aschmann Memorial Training Center in Felipe’s Ramos’s village of Nanacatlan. Adding fuel to the fire of evangelism are 2 weekly radio programs broadcast in the native Totonac language.

    That which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

Felipe writes in his ministry report.

“The seconds, minutes and hours we allow to express to God the needs of his people have never been wasted time. He has always answered us by saving people from perdition and bringing them to the feet of Christ to accept him as his Savior (Ps.37: 4,5).

My beloved brothers, I thank you very much for your prayers for my family and the work among the Totonac people. I am pleased to share with you what God has done in the different areas of work. Thank God for the radio programs that are broadcast every Saturday and Sunday in Poza Rica Veracruz. We witness how these messages have reached people who had never heard the message of salvation before. Likewise, it helps those already working in the different communities. Within the radio program we have been encouraging workers to continue preparing for the service of the Lord and encouraging their members to see the need to prepare as well, to be better instruments in the hands of God. The radio has opened more missions and our students have increased in each church. This year we started classes in Hueytlalpan together with Chipahuatlan with 17 students, Cuautotola 4 people, Lacapan 4 and Las Lomas Veracruz 11 people.”

Wow! With 36 new students this year and efforts to get last year’s graduating class more plugged into ministry we have our hands full in 2024. In addition, we are exploring the opportunity to translate the Old Testament into the Totonac Sierra language with a 2 day “Taste of Translation” workshop with Wycliffe Bible Translators. The workshop is scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2024 in Nanacatlan. Please pray for God’s clear guidance and provision in this effort. It is a big task.

TASTE OF TRANSLATION JANUARY 2024

Thirty men and women from 3 different Totonac regions gather in Nanacatlan in January, 2024 for a “Taste of Translation” workshop. UNTI (Wycliffe Bible Translators affiliate organization) sponsored the 2 day training. The purpose of the meetings was to study the likelihood of success of translating the Old Testament into Totonac and to teach translation skills to those assembled. 2 members of team Nanacatlan display their village map that identifies where Totonac or the Spanish language is spoken. This exercise helps the Christian workers visualize how best to spread the Gospel in their village. DECEMBER 17, 2022 STUDENT GRADUATION

The Hermann Aschmann Bible Training Center officially opened its doors on July 16, 2022, but the training began 10 years prior when the vision for the Center was conceived. Dr. Dale Kietzman's training center concept is published on the Totonac Bible Center website. I am sure Dr. Dale is looking down from heaven and smiling at this vision for a Totonac Bible training center being realized. 10 of our 20 graduates trained at the Center located in Nanacatlan, Puebla, MX. The others studied in Calalco, Veracruz, MX under Pastor Miguel Garcia.
